We are an established microbrewery on the Dolphin Coast (Ballito) we have been operating since October 2015. We are a husband and wife operation. We have 9 different styles of craft beers to cater for most/ if not all.
A taste of Poison City
Durban born and bred, Poison City Brewing raises the craft beer stakes.
Among iconic South African cities, Durban is the ugly sister, smaller than Johannesburg, and less beautiful than Cape Town.
Edgy, artistic, on the waves and near the farm and country, this gritty, industrial city is unique and in her own way beautiful. Among the sisters, she is the keeper!
Poison City Brewing is a craft beer brand that represents the cultural aspects of Durban that its founders Andre Schubert and Graeme Bird have lived, surfed and dreamed. As proud, committed “Durbanites” they aim to showcase elements of the city through their exceptionally well-crafted beer and to position Poison City Brewing as the craft beer brand synonymous with the city recently proclaimed as the 7th best city to visit in the world by the New York Times.
While a number of craft beers have successfully established themselves as national brands in South Africa, all of these beers are produced by operations based in the Cape. The opportunity is ripe for a beer from Durban to challenge these brands, and to create a homegrown brand that Durbanites can associate with.
As demonstrated by the brand imagery, the key elements Poison City Brewing represents are surfing and the Durban music, art and clubbing subcultures that Andre and Graeme have been a part of.
All of these elements come to life with the Poison City Brewing launch.
Forget the usual pretentious launch bullshit, the Poison City Brewing launch on the 3rd of October 2015 is a celebration of Durban itself.
After meeting at 3pm at Market, Andre’s popular restaurant in Essenwood, guests will enjoy a keg (or ten) of Poison City Brewing’s first lager, The Bird. Guests will then be taken on a tour of Poison City with some of her coolest locals.
Acting as tour guides will be Gangs of Ballet frontman Brad Klynsmith, celebrated club owner Garry Church, photojournalist Samora Chapman, street artist Mook Lion and surfing legend John Whittle. It promises to showcase Durban like its never been seen before.
Durban lives life in its own way, on its own term, and Poison City Brewing will now make its craft beer.
